Important Upcoming Events (some this week!) + WA Biodiversity Act Review – get involved + $7M NRM grants for community-led projects closes 30 April!
Dear NRPG members and interested,
From the Conservation Council of WA.
Kind regards,
Steve Gates
Secretary, NRPG Bushcarers
Hello Member Groups,
Please see below for events coming up in April – including 3 just this week!
Dept Biodiversity Conservation Attractions (DBCA) Review
DBCA has begun its statutory 5-year review of the WA Biodiversity Conservation Act, 2016.
This is the first review since the Act was passed 10 years ago and is 2 years overdue based on when it came fully into effect in 2019.
The review will examine and report on the operation and effectiveness of the Act with particular attention to protecting and conserving threatened species and threatened ecological communities.
The review is necessary to ensure that the Act remains current, effective and fit for purpose.
The review will engage with stakeholders before releasing a discussion paper to inform public submissions (expected 2nd half of 2026). The review is expected to be finished within 18 months.
CCWA will be organising ways for Member Groups and others to get involved, so we can get together around protecting WA nature. We all know the existing laws are failing native species and ecological communities.
It is so frustrating that instead of action we’re having yet more reviews – but we can do this – we have to do this – come together and once again stand up for nature, for native species, for ourselves and for the future!
If you want to be kept informed about the WA Biodiversity Conservation Act Review – please let us know!
