Update on Lot 912 Midland Road – NRPG

Hi all, just a short Update on Lot 912 Redevelopment Midland Road.

UPDATE The council staff Prepared a report Pages 88 – 135 As noted in the Ordinary Meeting of Council on the 9th April see link here

https://www.swan.wa.gov.au/city-and-council/your-council/meetings

It was recommended by City of Swan staff for the Council to support the change for Re-zoning. However, the Councillors Voted against the recommendation in line with Local residents..

The Councillors Voted to Not support proposed Amendment No.195 to Local Planning Scheme No.17 for the following reasons

1: A Special Use Zone Amendment will result in the loss of mature trees and will negatively impact on the Flora and Fauna resulting in decreased habitat for marsupials, reptiles and bird life including the endangered Black Cockatoos.

2: To Now forward the proposed Amendment documents and Council’s resolution to the Western Australian Planning Commission for their consideration and advise to the Minister.

So, what happens next my understanding is the Council Staff pack up all the submissions and send to the WA Planning commission (WAPC) they have 3 weeks to do that. The WAPC are a bit of a law to themselves but will review and advise the Minister concerned whom now is John Carey.  The report above is an interesting read but certain aspects stand out for me. The community had placed 79 submissions 59 objected 14 Conditional and only 5 supported. Most of the submissions came from Bushmead 23 a few less from Maida Vale then Gooseberry Hill the Councillors also did not support the submission and voted that way.  The Initial consultation process was poor, and it took 4 different groups to let people know what was happening in there back yards this is contrary to a community meeting that was held way back in 2021 to detail that those most affected apart from the Fauna and Flora would be heavily consulted being the Local residents

Well done to all of those who helped on the letter drop whom donated their time and to those that helped with Photocopying

Mostly I am pleased that people were able to have a say, agree or disagree but be given the opportunity to comment the fact that the councillors supported what most residents had put forward to me sounds like a good thing.

Watch this space

Can you please forward to other Interested residents
