Subject: BREAKING: Fracking recommended by WA EPA – take action
Can you call Minister Swinbourn’s office today?
Hi Steve, You can’t make it up! The Environmental Protection Agency has just recommended that Black Mountain’s Valhalla project can go ahead. How their fracking plan could go ahead and not wreck the environment beggars belief. The EPA knows that Traditional Owners, the public and groups like us won’t take the news lightly and once we’ve read their recommendation in full we’ll be back in touch with an opportunity to appeal it. But right now, we need as many people as possible to call WA Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn and tell him to reject this project. The final decision will be his. With water sources set to be polluted, endangered animal habitats destroyed and the entire Kimberley at risk of industrialisation, there’s no shortage of reasons for him to reject it.Can you call WA Environment Minister Swinbourn’s office right now, and ask him to reject this project? Head here to see our tips on what to say on your phone call! Fracking Approval recommended – Take action and call the Minister What’s at risk?In short – the Kimberley, one of the most unique and precious landscapes in the world, with unique and endangered wildlife like the ancient Freshwater Sawfish, the Australian Painted-Snipe and the Greater Bilby. The proposal area lies in the floodplain of the National Heritage-listed Martuwarra Fitzroy River and within 2 km of Mount Hardman Creek. This region is home to globally significant wetlands, free-flowing river systems and a living Aboriginal culture that is tens of thousands of years old.Traditional Owner groups like the Martuwarra Fitzroy River Council have raised major concerns about fracking in the Kimberley. Communities, water, culture and natural wonders are all at risk from fracking gasfields. But if that weren’t enough, there’s huge momentum within the Labor Party to ban fracking once and for all. We need to use this momentum to get Minister Swinbourn to reject the project and ban fracking for good. We know that Traditional Owners, voters and WA Labor’s own members want the Kimberley protected from fracking, but we haven’t convinced Premier Cook to legislate it yet. While we work on achieving the legislated ban, this project must not get the go-ahead.It’s not over yet. Not by a long shot. The final decision still sits with the WA Labor Government – and we need to tell them how much we oppose fracking in the Kimberley. We need you to add your voice to tell the WA Government we won’t stand for this desecration of the Kimberley.Call Minister Swinbourn’s office today to reject the Valhalla project and ban fracking – head here to see our guide on what to say when you call.Thank you for standing with us to keep the Kimberley frack free. We can do this.Simone and Claire for Frack Free WAP.S: Stay tuned for another email from us with a chance to submit an appeal against Valhalla in a few days |
