Call for Federal assessment of Alcoa’s O’Neil mining plans

By Steve Gates

Dear NRPG members and interested,

Please take just a few minutes to make a very important brief submission.

This increase in mining intent by Alcoa is very destructive and just part of their intent to increase clearing of our forests (by 50% more than what has been cleared in the last 60 years) in just the next 15 years!

Alcoa’s efforts to revegetate the forests where they have been cleared and the caprock removed, have failed to recreate anything approaching the original forest and highly unlikely to, given the permanent modification of the soil/hydrology and changes to our rainfall and temperatures as a result of climate change, according to forest ecology Scientists, including Prof Kinglsey Dixon.

Kind regards,
Steve Gates

President, NRPG Bushcarers

Speak up for the Northern Jarrah Forests

WAFA logo with WAFA in fluro green and WA Forest Alliance in black letters Dear Steve  Map showing location of Alcoa's O'Neil mining area East of Mandurah. Alcoa are threatening to clear 1,800ha in the Northern Jarrah Forests between Dwellingup and Jarrahdale at O’Neil – part of their Huntly operations. This area is home to Quokkas, Woylies, Numbats, Chuditch, Black Cockatoos and more endangered species that depend on their remaining habitat to survive. To protect the Northern Jarrah Forests we must all call for the O’Neil plans to be assessed as a ‘controlled action’, and the chance closes 9 December. We’ve prepared a brief guide to help you complete this simple step. See the guide  Using the guide, please join in calling for ‘controlled action’ on Alcoa’s O’Neil plans at the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act Public Portal here.
Thank you for all you do for the environment,
