Hi Steve,   I wanted to let you know about an important change in my plans for the rest of this year. I have decided to shift focus for a few months to make a shorter, more urgent spin-off from Browned Off, called Undermining the Forest. This means I will be pressing pause on  Browned Off for the next few months to complete the shorter, but related film. Undermining the Forest is a 30-minute film that will focus on Alcoa’s continued clearing of the jarrah forest in Western Australia and the serious problems with rehabilitation in an ecosystem already stressed by climate change, logging and mining. Alcoa has recently taken over South 32’s bauxite assets, making its bauxite footprint in the WA forests even bigger. At the same time, the company is seeking to expand its plans to mine the forest into the 2060s and the EPA is currently reviewing those plans. Given the timing and the scale of what is at stake, I believe this story needs to be told now.  My plan is to finish Undermining the Forest in November and have it ready for community screenings across the state by the end of the year. I will be editing this shorter film myself. Once it is complete, I will return to finishing Browned Off. I hope to have that film in cinemas by mid 2027. I want to be transparent that I am still struggling to raise the funds needed to employ a professional editor for Browned Off. A professional editor is needed for a cinematic release; it is not something I can do myself. Any support you can offer toward completing the feature — whether financial or through introductions to other donors — would be greatly appreciated. I want to assure you that forest management, including Alcoa’s massive footprint in the jarrah forest, will still be a part of Browned Off, but the story is so big and so urgent I that feel it needs a separate film to really expose the disaster that is unfolding behind the ever-thinning tree line. Thank you for your continued support.
