Dear Member Groups,
We need your help! The WA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is assessing Black Mountain’s 20-well fracking proposal in the Kimberley. There is just six days left to help ensure that the iconic Kimberley is not turned into a fracking wasteland. Will you help prevent fracking in the Kimberley and take two minutes to make a submission?Make a Submission Here Mt Hardman Creek which flows into the Martuwarra Fitzroy River, 1km from proposed fracking; and US oil and gas fracking wells. Photo: Ecoflight. This is the largest-ever proposal for fracking in WA and will impact groundwater, climate and habitats of threatened species. If this fracking project gets the green light, it will have serious consequences for Kimberley communities, West Australians and beyond. Why you should object:Black Mountain’s Valhalla project would use two billion litres of precious groundwater for drilling and fracking 20 wells. Its impact would be huge for an exploration project, with much more to come if they get their way.It would release ~1.6 million tonnes of climate emissions over seven years – equivalent to around half the annual emissions of WA’s Muja coal-fired power station. It will destroy, fragment and introduce predators to the habitat of threatened species like the Bilby. It poses an unacceptable risk to the National Heritage-listed Martuwarra Fitzroy River, which is downstream of the proposed site for the Valhalla fracking project. This Valhalla proposal is just the beginning. If the company gets its way it will expand to thousands of wells scoring the Kimberley’s fragile and unique environment. To have an impact we need thousands of people to stand up for the Kimberley and say no to this damaging project. Join us in taking two minutes to make a submission, then share it widely with your friends and family!Help Stop Fracking in the Kimberley  Did you hear that Minister Whitby will imminently be deciding on Australia’s biggest climate decision?Woodside has proposed to extend the North West Shelf until 2070. This project, if it goes ahead, would likely process the gas from fracking in the Kimberley. The North West Shelf is the centrepiece of Woodside’s Burrup Hub, which would make it the most polluting gas project in the Southern Hemisphere while also threatening UNESCO World Heritage-nominated Murujuga rock art. Let decision-makers know that Woodside’s Burrup Hub expansion plans cannot go ahead!
