This is our last chance to save an endangered banksia woodland by stopping the Perth Surf Park in Jandakot. Appeals against the Clearing Permit which will see a public asset destroyed for a private venture. Deadline Wednesday 13th December.
Please consider signing the change.org petition created by Heidi Hardisty and supported by Urban Bushland Council WA. https://chng.it/7VJ9Y4CjZC.
You can also help this campaign by sending in your own appeal to the Appeals Convenor WA. [email protected] You can copy and paste words from the online petition or check out UBC’s guidelines on the website here. Banksia Woodlands are far more valuable and beneficial to the public, than any environmentally destructive recreational venture. Please support the sustenance of our woodlands, for our animals, our plants, and for our own mental and physical well being. The future is entrusted to you, we implore you, to choose nature.

The Federal government is seeking feedback on the draft updated threat abatement plan for predation by feral cats. You can find their documents and consultation hub for you submission here. The closing date for feedback by 4.00pm AEDT on 11 December 2023.
It is a very long document – however the Summary is only 3 pages long; lists 6 principles for implementation which we strongly support given they provide a very good framework and make the threat abatement plan evidence based. UBC looks forward to the adoption and implementation of this updated Threat Abatement Plan. We believe it is essential that there is greatly increased Australian Government funding, together with mandatory increased funding by State Governments and by Local Governments to manage this threat to our natural environment. It is essential for retention of our unique biodiversity across Australia and especially here in our South West WA biodiversity hotspot.

UBC congratulates Colma Keating for being inducted into the WA Landcarer’s Hall of Fame in appreciation and recognition of outstanding and sustained contribution to community landcare in Western Australia at their inaugural event on Friday 8 December at the Wetlands Centre Cockburn.
Colma has a long history in the environment movement and has been a great supporter of UBC in all that time. Three years ago she joined the UBC committee and has put in an extraordinary effort and countless hours promoting and advocating for the issues we all care so much about. She has contributed to advocacy, has been vice chairperson and in 2023 has been both Memberships Officer and convenor of our very busy Submissions Working Group.
