Good News! – Climate Change Action Plan adopted! + Urban Forest Strategy available soon for Public Consultation.

By Clive Stubbington

Dear NRPG members and interested,

Two items of positive news from Tuesday’s City Council meeting!

  • The Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) was Adopted unanimously by Council

Cr Cathy Ritchie moved the Motion to adopt it and gave a very compelling speech in support. This Plan will become the formal guide to decarbonisation of the city’s actions operations,  to reach 40% emissions reduction (relative to the city’s 2020 ‘ baseline emissions’ – still to be determined soon), and to be Net zero’ by 2035. The City also commits to bring the community and businesses along through the decarbonisation transition, and to advocate to the state and federal government to support this.

  • The draft Urban Forest Strategy (UFS) was approved unanimously to go for Public Consultation, so the opportunity to have you say will happen soon.

NRPG acknowledges and thanks the City of Kalamunda staff, Kalamunda Environmental and the Sustainability Advisory Committee (KESAC) for developing these progressive and urgently needed initiatives, and to Councillors for their support.

We also recognise that the CCAP was originally initiated by our community member Dr Michelle Bunn via a Motion at Council about 3 years ago, so we thank her immensely for getting the ‘ball rolling’!

Keep your eyes open at the Engage Kalamunda for other chances to have your say. https://engage.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/

Presently we encourage you to make comment on consultations such as the

  • “Nature Fund Proposal”
  • “The Big Picture”

Kind regards,
Steve Gates
