Prescribed burning must stop and new technology rolled out to safeguard our communities and rapid loss of ecosystems and wildlife.

By Steve Gates

Dear NRPG members and interested,

For your interest:

“The evidence is now more solid than it has ever been in WA history”, says fire behaviour scientist Philip Zylstra.

Calls are growing louder to scale back failing prescribed burning and ramp up more effective fire-management strategies with advanced technology.

Yesterday’s Rally for Rapid Bushfire Suppression in Margaret River was held to tell the WA government it’s time to fund new early detection and rapid suppression firefighting technology and stop senselessly torching vulnerable ecosystems to meet the unfounded 200’000 hectare annual burn target. It called for more effective fire management to better safeguard our communities, and to stop the rapid loss of WA’s ecosystems and wildlife in destructive and failing prescribed burns.

“The prescribed burning program is no longer effective at protecting South West communities in a drying and warming climate,” says WAFA Senior Campaigner Jason Fowler in this WAtoday article. “Forests are also suffering with an increasing number of high-intensity burns causing severe damage.” https://www.watoday.com.au/…/wa-must-quit-prescribed…
