Dear Steve,
It’s an auspicious day to announce a new Executive Director. The election result was an emphatic win for nature and climate. The country said no to nuclear energy and yes to renewables. CCWA looks forward to working with a Labor government that now has a strong mandate to act on climate and the environment. We are so pleased to announce our new Executive Director, Matt Roberts, who has started working with us today. Matt comes to CCWA with a broad range of experience including in leadership, organisational planning, campaigning, communications and media, and also with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. The CCWA Board believes he is the right person to build on the work of our last Executive Director, Jess Beckerling, and consolidate on changes to our organisational structure and operations. The Board and staff are very glad for Matt to be joining the team.Matt brings a diverse background, including Executive experience at Department of Communities, teaching at the University of WA, and leadership roles in The Australian Greens with a strong focus on building consensus. He has also worked as a senior policy advisor with the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation DWER, giving him a good understanding of environmental policy development – a critical part of the work we do at CCWA. Matt has overseen electoral campaigns and understands advocacy within a political context, so we believe he will continue to build on the strong foundations laid by Jess, and Mia in the interim. We have been so fortunate to have Mia Pepper as acting Executive Director. Mia has been a tireless worker during this transition and carried herself with utmost dignity and grace. The board acknowledges her work and extends our thanks for her efforts and to all our staff who have also had to carry an extra load.     With two elections out of the way and a new Executive Director beginning today, the board and staff at CCWA are really looking forward to some new opportunities and a renewed focus to getting better outcomes for nature and stronger action on climate. Kind regards,Richard Yin
CCWA President
