Dear NRPG members and interested,
For your information and please try to attend the rally this Saturday – Threatened Species Day – see the link.

Dear Members,
Last month, on a dark day for WA’s environment, the State Government introduced its planned reforms to the WA Environmental Protection Act to Parliament.
If it gets passed, this legislation will slash environmental protections, gut the independence of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and fast-track project approvals by allowing the EPA board to be filled with industry representatives and issuing Statements of Intent to direct the EPA as to its priorities.
CCWA has prepared a Briefing Note in response to the legislation which is attached to this email. It is hoped this document will assist member groups in understanding the legislation and its implications on our environment, as well as CCWA’s proposed amendments to the Bill which are being circulated to all MPs ahead of parliamentary debate.
CCWA and the broader environment movement have been hard at work in response to these proposed state laws and pushing for stronger national nature laws. We are currently developing a positive reform agenda so that we can all get behind the laws we need to protect nature – stay tuned as we’ll be sharing more in the future, including running a workshop at the CCWA Conference later in the year
Two weeks ago, Rhiannon and Liam from CCWA were part of a delegation of Western Australians that travelled to Canberra on a lobbying trip to demonstrate support for strong federal nature laws. Sadly, just this week, we’re hearing news that the Nature Positive reforms are being watered down due to pressure from WA-based corporate players.
It is critical that we continue to build the strength of WA’s environment movement and demonstrate that these corporations do not represent the WA community.
Please lend your support by sending your email to decision-makers and sharing with your groups: DefendWANature.org.au
And if you’re based near Perth, we hope you will join us and represent your group at the Threatened Species Day Action this Saturday!
