Work carried out/planned for this year - 2001-2002:

Approximately 250 dryland plants put in along steep slope of John St, and approx 250 wetland species planted in creek at bottom of Torwood Drive. Plants for 2002 planting season have been ordered.

Continue weed control in the following areas:

  • On Area 1 along John St to prepare for seeding. This includes along the verge and the firebreak road (parallel to John St) to prevent weed/grass ingress into the undisturbed bush. Unfortunately this has got away from us this year as we did not get widespread spraying done before seeding occurred. Investigating getting plastic tubes and stakes for all seedlings so that effective spraying or whipper snipping can be done without accidental harm to the seedlings.
  • At bottom of Torwood Dve where prior plantings have been done. We have removed an area of Taro (Elephant ears) from the lower area of the stream and will monitor its effectiveness and continue removal.
in planted area along creek at end of Karri Court.
  • A start on Watsonia and other weeds from the firebreak road down toward the creek, and just upslope of the firebreak road in the granite outcrop.
  • Working with the Shire to get the Kikuyu grass area at the intersection of John St and Tregenna Rd mowed regularly now that most plants are sufficiently large to be seen and avoided.
  • Plan to try to raise interest in seed collecting this year.

Long-term plans are described in the original SCULP proposal.
